BADUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – A traffic diversion trial implemented in Kerobokan Kelod, Badung, has led to congestion along several key roads, particularly Sunset Road, Jalan Mertanadi, and surrounding areas, on the second day of its implementation.
The congestion was also reported near the Kerobokan Prison (LP Kerobokan) area during certain peak hours, as traffic flow adjustments redirected vehicles to alternative routes.
Responding to the situation, Badung Transportation Agency (Dishub) Head Anak Agung Rai Yuda Darma said the traffic scheme is still in the trial phase and remains under continuous evaluation.
“This is still a trial. It is only the second day of implementation, and there will certainly be an evaluation,” Rai Yuda Darma said on Monday, 15 December 2025.
He explained that Dishub Badung has deployed monitoring teams on a daily basis to observe on-site conditions resulting from the traffic diversion. The teams are tasked with identifying changes in traffic patterns, including fluctuations in vehicle volume at different times of the day.
“Every day we assess field conditions, including vehicle volume at specific hours, and compare them with the existing road capacity,” he said.
According to Rai Yuda Darma, traffic flow efficiency depends heavily on the balance between vehicle volume and road capacity. The collected data will be reviewed as part of discussions within the Regional Traffic and Road Transport Forum (LLAJ).
He acknowledged that Kerobokan experiences consistently high traffic volume, while several road sections are not yet adequate to handle the load.
To mitigate congestion, Dishub Badung has strengthened traffic control measures on the ground through coordination with multiple agencies.
“We have reinforced on-site traffic management through collaboration between Dishub, the police, Satpol PP, and community security officers (Linmas) in Kerobokan Kelod,” he said.
Rai Yuda Darma added that the most significant congestion has been observed on roads directly affected by the new traffic flow arrangement, particularly Jalan Tangkuban Perahu.
“Vehicle queues typically build up from around 8:00 a.m. until midday. The main challenge is the imbalance between vehicle volume and road capacity,” he explained.
The traffic diversion is part of a traffic engineering and management scheme introduced by the Badung Regency Government, which officially began on 14 December 2025.
The diversion affects the North Kuta area, specifically around Petitenget Intersection, involving Jalan Raya Kerobokan and Jalan Tangkuban Perahu.
Authorities said traffic conditions will continue to be monitored before further adjustments or decisions are made.
