GIANYAR, DEWATA.NEWS – A bridge on Jalan Raya Ubud, Gianyar Regency, partially collapsed on Thursday (December 18, 2025), prompting safety warnings for road users in one of Bali’s busy traffic corridors.
The bridge, located just west of the Dewa Indra Statue area in Ubud, did not fail suddenly. Videos circulating online showed strong water flow and gradual soil movement from the ravine beneath the structure before the collapse occurred.
The incident was confirmed by I Gusti Ngurah Dibya, Head of Emergency and Logistics at the Gianyar Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD). He said signs of land movement had been detected since around a month ago.
“There is a Bank BRI building nearby. Its warehouse experienced a landslide last month, and now the movement has spread to the eastern side. The collapsed section is more than 20 meters deep,” Dibya explained.
According to BPBD, the initial landslide near the bank’s warehouse gradually extended toward the bridge structure. The situation was worsened by continued heavy rainfall in the Gianyar area, which increased ground instability.
A joint response team involving Ubud Police, Gianyar Regional Secretary officials, and the Gianyar Public Works Agency (PUPR) was deployed to inspect the site and carry out initial mitigation measures. As a precaution, police lines have been installed around the affected area to ensure public safety.
The bridge remains passable for now, but authorities have advised motorists to use alternative routes due to the risk of further collapse. “It can still be crossed, but it’s safer to find another route. With ongoing rain, vibrations could cause the damage to spread,” Dibya warned.
In addition to the bridge incident, heavy rain also caused several trees to fall across Gianyar Regency on the same day. In Bukit Jati, Samplangan, and Serongga Village in Gianyar District, fallen trees damaged Hindu shrines. Another tree fell near Utamas Villa in Medahan Village, Blahbatuh District.
“Today’s rain also caused fallen trees, two in Gianyar District and one in Blahbatuh. The damage was limited to shrines, with no injuries or fatalities reported,” Dibya said.
Authorities continue to monitor conditions as rainfall remains high in the region.
