BADUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – A white Daihatsu Xenia was completely destroyed by fire on Jalan Raya Petitenget in North Kuta, on Thursday night (December 25, 2025). Police believe the blaze was caused by an electrical short circuit in the front section of the vehicle.

Head of North Kuta Police I Ketut Agus Pasek Sudina said the incident occurred at around 10:30 p.m. WITA while the vehicle was transporting a Turkish foreign national. “The car caught fire while the driver was carrying a Turkish tourist,” he said on Friday (December 26).

The driver, Agus Purwanto (54), a resident of Banyuwangi, East Java, noticed sparks coming from the vehicle as he was driving along Petitenget Road. He immediately pulled over near a convenience store in the area and safely asked his passenger to exit the car before the fire intensified.

According to police, initial flames were briefly extinguished using a fire extinguisher borrowed from a nearby clinic. However, sparks reappeared several minutes later, causing the fire to rapidly spread and engulf the entire vehicle. Realizing the situation was worsening, the driver contacted his son to alert the fire department.

Firefighters from Badung Regency arrived at the scene approximately 30 minutes later and successfully extinguished the blaze. No injuries were reported to either the driver or the foreign passenger.

Police estimate the material loss at around IDR 150 million. “The preliminary assessment suggests the fire was triggered by an electrical short circuit in the front of the vehicle,” Agus Pasek added.

Authorities reminded motorists to regularly check their vehicles’ electrical systems to reduce the risk of similar incidents, especially during peak holiday traffic.
