DENPASAR, DEWATA.NEWS – Two foreign nationals from the United Kingdom stood trial at the Denpasar District Court on Thursday (February 5, 2026) in a major narcotics case involving cocaine smuggling into Bali.

The defendants, Kial Garth Robinson (29) and Piran Ezra Wilkinson, received different sentencing demands from public prosecutor Made Dipa Umbara. Robinson was found to have played a central role in the case, while Wilkinson was considered to have had a more limited involvement.

During the hearing, the panel of judges chaired by Abang Marthen Bunga heard the prosecutor state that Robinson had been “legally and convincingly proven” to have committed a narcotics offense involving conspiracy or attempted possession, storage, control, or distribution of Category I narcotics exceeding five grams.

Robinson was charged under Article 112 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph (1) of Indonesia’s Narcotics Law, as referenced in Article 609 paragraph (2)(a) of the new Criminal Code. The prosecutor demanded a prison sentence of 11 years, along with a fine of IDR 1 billion. If the fine is not paid within one month, prosecutors may seize and auction Robinson’s assets. Should the assets be insufficient, the fine would be replaced with an additional 190 days of imprisonment.

Meanwhile, Wilkinson was charged more lightly on the grounds that his role was limited to receiving the narcotics. Prosecutors sought a prison sentence of nine years and six months.

Court documents revealed that the case originated from an investigation by the Bali Provincial National Narcotics Agency (BNNP). Officers monitored a suspected drug delivery involving foreign nationals, tracking the movement from I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport to a villa in Pererenan, Mengwi, Badung.

According to the indictment, Robinson was first intercepted by customs officers at the international arrivals terminal of Ngurah Rai Airport on September 3, 2025, at around 20:30 WITA. During the inspection, officers discovered cocaine concealed inside his backpack.

The cocaine had been transported from Barcelona, Spain. Prosecutors said Robinson traveled to Bali at the instruction of an individual identified as “Santos,” who ordered him to carry the bag containing cocaine and hand it over to Wilkinson.

Investigators later escorted Robinson to Villa Anginsepoi in Banjar Pengembangan, Pererenan, where he had been staying. Robinson contacted Santos and informed him that someone would arrive to collect the bag. Shortly afterward, Wilkinson arrived at the villa and was immediately arrested by BNNP officers on September 4, 2025.

Authorities seized two plastic packages containing white powder confirmed to be cocaine. Weighing conducted at the BNNP Bali office showed the total weight to be 1,343.67 grams gross, or 1,321 grams net.

The trial is continuing, with the court expected to hear defense arguments before delivering its verdict.
