GIANYAR, DEWATA.NEWS – Traffic along Jalan Raya Gunung Sari in Peliatan Village, Ubud District, was temporarily brought to a complete standstill on Saturday (February 14) after a bayur tree collapsed across the main road.
The incident occurred at approximately 10:30 WITA, when the tree fell and blocked the entire roadway, preventing vehicles from passing in either direction. The collapse was reportedly caused by decaying roots and unstable soil conditions following several days of heavy rainfall and strong winds in the area.
The fallen tree was first reported by a motorcyclist who was traveling to work and found the road impassable. The witness immediately contacted local authorities to report the obstruction.
By 10:50 WITA, officers from Ubud Police and the Gianyar Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) had arrived at the scene to begin clearing operations. Field personnel used a chainsaw to cut the approximately 15-centimeter-diameter trunk and remove debris to the roadside.
Traffic flow was fully restored by around 11:45 WITA after officers completed the cleanup and managed vehicle movement to ease congestion.
Ubud Police Chief, Kompol I Wayan Putra Antara, confirmed that restoring public mobility was the priority. “Once we received the report, personnel immediately moved together with BPBD. In addition to clearing the tree, we also managed traffic to reduce congestion,” he said.
Authorities have urged residents and motorists to remain cautious as extreme weather conditions continue. Drivers are advised to monitor official weather updates, avoid sheltering under large trees during strong winds, and promptly report any trees that appear unstable or pose a risk to road users.
