KLUNGKUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – Fast boat crossings from Nusa Penida to Sanur in Denpasar and Pemenang in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) were operated under a temporary open-and-close system on Tuesday (Feb 24, 2026) due to extreme weather conditions affecting Bali over the past several days.
Head of the Class II Port Authority Unit (UPP) Nusa Penida, Ni Luh Putu Eka Suyasmin, said crossings were first suspended at 08:30 WITA because of poor weather. Services resumed around midday as conditions improved, before being suspended again at 15:00 WITA.
Authorities have not confirmed when operations will fully resume.
“We are implementing an open-and-close system depending on weather conditions at Nusa Penida Port and the destination ports,” Eka Suyasmin said on Tuesday.
The suspension was applied along routes affected by strong winds and heavy rain. Thick fog was also reported, reducing visibility and making crossings unsafe.
“If forced, we are concerned that unwanted incidents could occur, so we decided to delay departures,” she added.
All passengers scheduled to travel to Sanur or Pemenang were informed of the temporary policy. According to port authorities, travelers understood the delay as a safety precaution.
“Once weather conditions improve, crossings will be reopened,” Eka Suyasmin said.
Separately, fast boat services from Padangbai People’s Port in Karangasem to Gili Trawangan, NTB, were also briefly suspended on Tuesday morning due to extreme weather. However, operations have since returned to normal as conditions improved.
“This morning departures were postponed, but now services have returned to normal,” said I Ketut Muliana, Head of the Padangbai Harbormaster and Port Authority Office (KSOP).
Travelers are advised to check directly with their boat operators for the latest schedule updates during periods of unstable weather.
