DENPASAR, DEWATA.NEWS – Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BBMKG) Region III Denpasar has issued an early warning for high waves reaching up to four meters in southern Lombok Strait waters from March 22 to March 25, 2026.

According to forecaster Luh Eka Arisanti, wave heights exceeding 2.5 meters pose a risk to maritime safety, particularly for ferry operations. Wind speeds in affected areas are expected to reach up to 21 knots.

Other surrounding waters are also forecast to experience moderate sea conditions. In northern Lombok Strait, southern Bali Strait, Badung Strait, and the southern waters of Bali, wave heights are predicted to range between 1.25 and 2.5 meters.

The agency explained that current synoptic conditions show wind patterns in northern Bali waters moving from the southwest to northwest. Meanwhile, in southern Bali waters, winds are expected to blow from the south to west, with speeds ranging between 5 and 20 knots.

BBMKG advised maritime operators to exercise caution under these conditions. Ferry operators are urged to remain alert to both wind speed and wave height. Barge operators are advised to take precautions when wind speeds reach 16 knots and wave heights approach 1.5 meters.

For small fishing vessels, the agency warned of increased risk when wind speeds exceed 15 knots (approximately 27 kilometers per hour) and wave heights reach 1.25 meters.

Authorities emphasized that while there is no need for panic, the public should remain vigilant and take precautionary measures to ensure safe daily activities, especially at sea.

Residents and maritime users are encouraged to monitor official updates through BMKG channels, including social media and its mobile application, for the latest weather and sea condition information.
