BADUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – A fire destroyed four villa buildings along Jalan Pantai Nelayan in Canggu, North Kuta, on Friday evening (May 1), with total losses estimated at around IDR 2 billion.

According to North Kuta Police Chief Kompol I Ketut Agus Pasek Sudina, the fire broke out at approximately 7:35 PM WITA, starting from the easternmost building, which was undergoing renovation.

“A witness, who is a construction worker, saw flames coming from the roof shortly after leaving the site to buy food,” he said on Saturday (May 2).

The fire spread rapidly due to the use of highly flammable materials such as thatched grass (alang-alang) and bamboo, which are commonly used in villa structures in the area.

Initial findings suggest the fire may have been triggered by an electrical short circuit. Witnesses reported seeing signs of electrical issues before the flames intensified.

“During the renovation process, the electricity was not disconnected, which posed a significant risk,” Agus Pasek added.

Firefighters deployed multiple units to contain the blaze. Police reported that seven fire engines were sent to the scene, while the Badung Fire and Rescue Agency confirmed deploying eight units, including water supply vehicles, from several nearby stations.

The fire was brought under control and fully extinguished at around 8:30 PM WITA after approximately one and a half hours of firefighting efforts. Authorities used an estimated 30,000 liters of water during the operation.

Officials stated that no injuries or fatalities were reported, as the villas were unoccupied at the time of the incident. The owner, identified as Anita, is currently reported to be abroad.

Emergency teams prioritized preventing the fire from spreading to nearby residential areas while securing surrounding property.

Police have conducted a preliminary investigation at the scene and are collecting witness statements. The villa management has been advised to file an official report to support further investigation.
