DENPASAR, DEWATA.NEWS – The Governor of Siquijor Province in the Philippines visited Bali on Sunday (May 10, 2026) to study how the island has developed into one of the world’s leading tourism destinations while maintaining its cultural identity and environmental sustainability.

Siquijor Governor Jake Vincent Sarmiento Villa met with Bali Governor Wayan Koster at the Jaya Sabha official residence in Denpasar to discuss tourism development, environmental policies, and cultural preservation.

During the meeting, Governor Koster emphasized that Bali’s tourism industry has been built on the strength of its living culture, natural beauty, and the hospitality of Balinese people.

“Culture, nature, and the hospitality of the people are the main strengths of Bali tourism that must continue to be protected and preserved,” Koster said.

He explained that the Bali Provincial Government continues to strengthen environmental protection policies as part of efforts to preserve the island’s long-term tourism sustainability.

According to Koster, Bali has introduced restrictions on single-use plastics and implemented source-based waste management policies aimed at reducing pollution and improving waste handling systems across the island.

“These policies are part of efforts to keep Bali clean, healthy, and sustainable,” he added.

Koster also highlighted that Bali’s strong cultural identity remains one of the island’s biggest attractions for both domestic and international visitors. Traditional ceremonies, local customs, arts, and community life continue to play a central role in Bali’s tourism appeal.

The visit is expected to open opportunities for future cooperation between Bali and Siquijor, particularly in tourism, cultural exchange, and human resource development.

Meanwhile, Governor Jake Vincent said his delegation came to Bali to learn directly from the island’s tourism development model and understand how Bali has maintained its international reputation for decades.

“We came to Bali to learn how Bali tourism has developed into one of the world’s tourism destinations,” he said.

He noted that Bali’s success is closely tied to its ability to preserve culture, protect natural assets, and involve local communities in tourism development.

During the meeting, both governors exchanged tourism data, regional development information, and strategic ideas related to sustainable tourism management.

Siquijor, one of the smallest provinces in the Philippines, is also known for its natural attractions and tourism potential, making Bali’s experience particularly relevant for the province’s future tourism plans.
