BADUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – Police in Bali’s Kuta District have arrested one suspect linked to the robbery of an Australian tourist whose gold necklace was snatched in the Legian tourism area earlier this year.
The victim, identified by initials JS, 67, was reportedly walking with his child after dinner on Jalan Padma Utara in Legian, Kuta, on the night of 2 April 2026 when the incident occurred.
According to Denpasar Police spokesperson Iptu I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya, two men riding a motorcycle approached the victim from behind before forcibly grabbing the gold necklace he was wearing.
“The two suspects suddenly snatched the victim’s gold necklace until it broke,” Adi said on Monday (25/5).
After taking the necklace, the suspects immediately fled the scene on their motorcycle while the victim attempted to chase them unsuccessfully.
The victim later reported the case to Kuta Police, prompting investigators to examine the crime scene, question witnesses, and review CCTV footage from surrounding areas and possible escape routes.
Police eventually arrested one suspect, identified by initials KPT, 24, during an operation at his boarding house in the Kubu Anyar area of Kuta on Friday (15/5) early morning.
During questioning, the suspect admitted to carrying out the robbery with another individual who remains at large and has now been placed on the wanted list.
“The suspect confessed to committing the snatching together with an accomplice who is still being pursued and has been designated as a wanted person,” Adi explained.
Investigators said the stolen necklace had already been sold, and the money was allegedly used by the suspect for daily expenses.
Police also confiscated a black Honda PCX motorcycle believed to have been used during the robbery, along with a white hoodie worn by the suspect at the time of the incident.
The suspect has been charged under Indonesia’s criminal code relating to violent theft, which carries a maximum prison sentence of nine years.
