KLUNGKUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – A Belgian national was found dead inside her room at Bambu Green Villas in Biaung Hamlet, Ped Village, Nusa Penida, Bali, on Tuesday morning (June 16). The victim was identified as Ann Marie J. Vandecaesbeek, 57.
According to Nusa Penida Police Chief I Ketut Kesuma Jaya, the incident occurred after the victim had breakfast with her husband, Nico Carina P. Tetaert, 58, at the villa’s swimming pool area at around 8:00 a.m. WITA. The couple later returned to their room to prepare for their planned activities on the island.
Kesuma Jaya said the victim’s husband entered the bathroom while Ann Marie remained in the room. About an hour later, he heard her calling faintly and went to check on her condition.
“The victim’s husband went into the bathroom. About one hour later, the victim called out in a weak voice. When he checked, she was already lying on the floor of the room,” Kesuma Jaya said.
Villa staff who were alerted to the situation immediately attempted resuscitation efforts and contacted an ambulance. The victim was then transported to Nusa Medica Clinic for emergency treatment.
However, medical personnel later confirmed that she had already passed away.
Preliminary medical examinations found no signs of violence on the victim’s body. Authorities reported there were no visible injuries, bruises, or indications of physical assault.
“Initial procedures have been carried out. Coordination with medical personnel and related agencies is ongoing. Based on the preliminary examination, there are no signs of violence. The victim’s husband declined an autopsy,” Kesuma Jaya explained.
Police also stated that the victim’s husband informed investigators that Ann Marie had no known history of serious illness or allergies.
The body is expected to be transferred to Prof. Dr. I.G.N.G. Ngoerah General Hospital in Denpasar for further handling. Authorities are also assisting with administrative procedures and coordinating with the victim’s family and the Belgian embassy.
