KLUNGKUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – A fire destroyed a cafe, bar, restaurant, and cottage complex in Banjar Nyuh, Ped Village, Nusa Penida, Klungkung, Bali, early Monday (September 7). The fire broke out at around 2:30 a.m. WITA and completely destroyed the buildings. No fatalities were reported.
The fire was first noticed by a local resident, Ketut Wirahadi, who woke up after hearing an explosion followed by residents shouting that a fire had started. Police from the Nusa Penida Police Sector arrived at the scene about five minutes after the fire was reported.
Police officers, firefighters, and local residents worked together to contain the flames and prevent them from spreading to nearby buildings.
Nusa Penida Police Chief Kompol I Ketut Kesuma Jaya said the fire was already large when officers arrived.
“When they arrived at the scene, the witness (Wirahadi) saw that the fire had already grown large. Our personnel immediately responded together with the community and firefighters,” Kesuma Jaya said.
According to police, protecting residents was the main priority during the response. Once the fire was brought under control, officers secured the area for further investigation.
“The first priority was to ensure the safety of the community, assist with the firefighting process, and prevent the fire from spreading to other buildings. After the fire was brought under control, we secured the location for investigation,” he said.
The fire completely destroyed the restaurant and cottage buildings. While there were no reported casualties, preliminary material losses are estimated at around IDR 3 billion.
Police are still investigating the cause of the fire. The Criminal Investigation Unit of the Nusa Penida Police Sector is collecting witness statements and examining the scene.
“Several police measures have been carried out, starting with securing the scene, assisting the firefighting process, collecting witness statements, installing police lines, and conducting an initial investigation,” Kesuma Jaya said.
Police have also urged residents to remain alert to potential fire hazards, particularly in business premises and residential areas. The public is encouraged to immediately contact police or firefighters when they encounter situations that could pose a threat to safety.
