DENPASAR, DEWATA.NEWS – A German national identified by initials PP, 53, was found dead inside a bathroom at his residence in Sanur, South Denpasar, on Monday (25/5) evening. Police suspect the victim may have died from electrocution linked to a water heater installation.

South Denpasar Criminal Investigation Unit head Iptu Azel Arizandi said police have questioned several witnesses, including the victim’s wife, a Thai national identified by initials YP, 54.

According to her statement, both she and her husband were bathing separately at around 5:40 p.m. local time before the incident occurred.

After finishing her shower, YP noticed that her husband had not come out of the bathroom and decided to check on him.

“When she entered the bathroom, the witness saw the victim in a kneeling or prostrated position and not moving. She repeatedly called him, but there was no response,” Iptu Azel said on Tuesday (26/5).

YP then ran outside the house to ask nearby residents for help. Several local residents later entered the bathroom and assisted in moving the victim’s body onto a bed.

During the evacuation, one resident reportedly experienced an electric shock while touching the shower hose inside the bathroom.

Another witness, identified as Yohanes Mamude, 20, said he was resting after work when the victim’s wife approached him in tears, telling him that her husband had died.

He and several others immediately went to the residence while another resident contacted the Denpasar Disaster Management Agency (BPBD).

Witnesses said they found the victim unclothed and motionless inside the bathroom.

Minutes later, an ambulance from BPBD Denpasar arrived and transported the victim’s body to Bali Mandara Hospital for further examination.

Police said no signs of violence were found on the victim’s body during the initial crime scene investigation.

“There were burn marks on the victim’s back, and skin residue was found attached to the shower hose,” Iptu Azel stated.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the exact cause of death.
