KLUNGKUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds on Wednesday (January 21) triggered natural disasters across parts of Nusa Penida, Klungkung Regency, causing significant damage to temples and several residential properties. No injuries or fatalities were reported.
Local police confirmed that a landslide occurred in Banjar Penida, Sakti Village, near Pura Ulun Danu, following intense rainfall that began on Tuesday afternoon (January 20). The landslide sent soil and debris into the temple complex, severely damaging most of its shrines.
“There were no casualties. However, the incident caused an estimated loss of around IDR 1 billion,” said Police Public Relations Officer Iptu I Dewa Nyoman Alit Purnawibawa.
Separately, another landslide struck Banjar Prapat in Ped Village at approximately 02:30 WITA, affecting Pura Segara and nearby homes. Four shrines at the coastal temple collapsed, and two houses owned by local residents sustained heavy damage.
“The landslide caused serious damage to Pura Segara and two residential houses,” Iptu Dewa Alit explained, adding that losses at the temple were estimated at IDR 250 million.
The damaged homes belong to I Ketut Roni (30) and I Ketut Warta (46). According to police, both residents managed to escape safely after waking up to signs of ground movement around their houses.
“The homeowners woke up and immediately evacuated to save themselves after noticing soil movement,” he said. Total losses from the Banjar Prapat incident are estimated at approximately IDR 295 million.
Authorities said residents reported the incidents to village officials, who then coordinated with relevant agencies to monitor conditions and anticipate potential follow-up landslides, as unstable soil remains a concern following prolonged heavy rainfall.
