BANGLI, DEWATA.NEWS – A lightning strike hit three fishermen at Lake Batur, Kintamani, on Sunday afternoon (8/2), killing one person at the scene and injuring two others who were taken to hospital for treatment.
The victims were identified as I Wayan Rencana Yasa (37), Wayan Wirawan (34), and Ketut Bagiada (37), all residents of Banjar Klod, Nyanglan Village, Klungkung Regency.
According to Bangli Police spokesperson Iptu I Ketut Gede Ratwijaya, the group arrived at the fishing spot around 10:30 WITA and were fishing along the lakeshore in the Tirta Husada area of Batur Tengah Village. Heavy rain developed in the afternoon, followed by lightning that struck the fishing area and directly hit all three men.
The lightning strike caused I Wayan Rencana Yasa to die instantly at the location. “The other two victims suffered injuries and were rushed to Bangli Regional Hospital for further medical treatment,” Ratwijaya said.
Medical examinations conducted by the Bangli Police forensic team found that the deceased suffered severe burn injuries to the neck, back of the head, chest, as well as the right arm and leg.
“There were no signs of violence. The cause of death was confirmed as a lightning strike,” he added.
Wayan Wirawan sustained burn injuries to his right hand and burns on the inner left thigh extending to the calf. Ketut Bagiada suffered an injury to the sole of his left foot while attempting to assist the victim who died.
The body of the deceased was transferred to Klungkung Regional Hospital before being handed over to the family. Police said the family has accepted the incident as an accident and declined an autopsy.
