BADUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – A 22-year-old Chinese national identified by the initials LM was reported drowned at Canna Beach, located on Jalan Raya Nusa Dua Selatan, Benoa, South Kuta, on Thursday (Feb 12).
The victim was later found deceased, floating in the sea. Denpasar Police Public Relations Officer Iptu Gede Adi Saputra Jaya confirmed the incident on Friday (Feb 13).
According to a witness statement from I Wayan Suta Ariyana (26), a lifeguard at Canna Beach, the incident occurred at approximately 09:40 WITA. At the time, he was on duty when approached by a guest who informed him that his companion had drowned.
“After receiving the information, the witness conducted a search around the beach area based on the details provided by the victim’s companion,” Adi Saputra said.
After approximately 20 minutes of searching, the lifeguard located the victim face down in the water. The body was found around 20 meters from the shoreline at a depth of approximately two meters.
The lifeguard evacuated the victim to the shore before authorities were notified.
“The incident was reported to the authorities. The victim’s body was transported to Prof. Ngoerah General Hospital (Sanglah) in Denpasar using a Badung Tourism Office ambulance. The case is being handled by the Water and Air Police Unit of Denpasar Police,” he added.
Further investigation is being conducted by Satpolairud Polresta Denpasar to determine the circumstances surrounding the drowning.
