GIANYAR, DEWATA.NEWS – The Gianyar Regency Government has intensified efforts to prevent the spread of rabies by organizing a mass vaccination campaign in Samplangan Subdistrict on Wednesday (February 18).

During the operation, a team from the Gianyar Agriculture Office (Distan) vaccinated 150 dogs. While the number marks progress, authorities acknowledge that challenges remain significant, as the estimated dog population in Samplangan reaches approximately 735 animals.

The vaccination program targeted both owned dogs and stray animals considered at risk of carrying the virus. The initiative was carried out in collaboration with Gianyar Police to support public health education and community safety.

Pet owners were urged to promptly report animals showing suspicious symptoms and to ensure their pets receive annual rabies vaccinations.

“Rabies prevention is not only the responsibility of the government, but also of pet owners. We encourage residents to proactively vaccinate their animals,” said Gianyar Police Chief, Kompol I Made Adi Suryawan.

He added that police involvement in the campaign also aims to maintain public order and community security during field operations.

Through cross-sector coordination, local authorities hope to significantly reduce rabies cases in Gianyar and create a safer and healthier environment for residents and visitors alike.
