DENPASAR, DEWATA.NEWS – A Dutch national identified as Rashim Abdoelrazak appeared before the Denpasar District Court on Tuesday (Feb 24, 2026) to face formal charges related to marijuana cultivation in North Denpasar.
The 30-year-old defendant attended the indictment hearing using crutches following a recent medical operation. Prosecutors allege that he cultivated 14 marijuana plants at a residence in Banjar Merta Gangga, Ubung Kaja Village, North Denpasar.
According to the indictment read by Public Prosecutor Lovi Pusnawan, Abdoelrazak was arrested on Oct 1, 2025, at around 12:30 WITA on the second floor of a house on Jalan Bina Kusuma IV, Ubung Kaja. He was detained along with another defendant, Kseniia Varlamova, whose case is being processed separately.
Prosecutors stated that the two individuals possessed 14 marijuana plants stored inside the house.
“The defendant intended to cultivate marijuana using a black hydroponic tent setup to produce more,” the prosecutor told the panel of judges led by Judge Iman Luqmanul Hakim.
Court documents state that the hydroponic setup was allegedly assembled by an associate named Chester in March 2025. The defendant admitted to beginning cultivation on Aug 25, 2025.
The indictment outlines the cultivation process described by the defendant. He reportedly placed cannabis seeds between moistened white tissue paper until roots emerged. Once germinated, the seedlings were transferred to plastic cups containing damp tissue before being moved into planting media filled with coconut fiber. The plants were then placed above water containers until leaves and flowers developed.
After growing larger, the plants were transferred into white pots filled with coconut fiber. Prosecutors said the defendant routinely watered and fertilized the plants.
“The defendant harvested marijuana leaves and placed them in plastic clip bags, while dried leaves were stored in a pot,” the prosecutor stated.
The defendant has been charged under Article 610 paragraph (2)(a) and Article 111 paragraph (2) of Law No. 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code in conjunction with Law No. 1 of 2026 on Sentencing Adjustments.
The charges relate to the unlawful production, import, export, or distribution of Category I narcotics in plant form exceeding one kilogram or more than five plants.
In response to the indictment, the defendant, through his legal counsel, submitted a written objection (exception) to the charges. The trial is scheduled to continue on March 10, 2026.
