DENPASAR, DEWATA.NEWS – A magnitude 4.7 earthquake shook much of Bali on Sunday morning (March 1), prompting residents in several areas to leave their homes as tremors were felt across the island.

According to data from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the quake occurred at 11:52:49 WITA. The epicenter was located at coordinates 9.27 South Latitude and 115.53 East Longitude, approximately 63 kilometers southeast of South Kuta, at a depth of 83 kilometers.

The tremor was reported to have lasted briefly but was felt widely, including in Denpasar, Gianyar, Jembrana, and surrounding areas. Residents in East Denpasar were seen moving outside their homes as a precaution.

Despite the strong shaking, there were no immediate official reports of structural damage or casualties at the time of publication. BMKG confirmed that the earthquake did not have the potential to trigger a tsunami.

One resident, Rini, who lives in Batubulan, Gianyar, said she was startled by the sudden shaking.

“I couldn’t run because I have two small children,” she said.

Reports circulating among community messaging groups indicated that tremors were felt as far as Banyuwangi in East Java, across the Bali Strait, suggesting the quake’s impact was widespread despite its offshore location.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation, and residents are advised to remain calm and follow official updates from BMKG in the event of aftershocks.
