GIANYAR, DEWATA.NEWS – A Bale Gong pavilion at Pura Desa lan Puseh in Banjar Nyuh Kuning, Mas Village, Ubud District, collapsed late Wednesday night (March 4, 2026) following strong winds and heavy rainfall.

The incident occurred at around 11:30 p.m. WITA, but the damage was only discovered by local residents the following morning at approximately 7:30 a.m. WITA on Thursday (March 5).

The structure, measuring approximately 9 meters by 4.5 meters, was completely destroyed and reduced to rubble.

Ubud Police Chief Kompol I Wayan Putra Antara said officers were deployed to the site to conduct an initial assessment and document the damage.

“Based on field inspections and witness statements, the main cause was extreme weather conditions including strong winds and heavy rain, combined with the building’s aging foundation,” Putra Antara explained.

Authorities confirmed that no injuries or fatalities were reported in the incident. However, the temple caretakers are estimated to have suffered material losses of around IDR 300 million.

Despite the collapse, traffic and daily community activities in the surrounding area continued as normal.

As of Thursday morning, debris from the collapsed structure had not yet been cleared. Temple caretakers are coordinating to determine an appropriate ceremonial day (dewasa ayu) to conduct traditional rituals before beginning the cleanup process.

Police have also urged residents to remain cautious amid unpredictable weather conditions. Local authorities advise communities to regularly inspect the structural condition of older buildings, particularly public facilities and places of worship, to reduce the risk of similar incidents.
