BADUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds caused water pooling and part of a ceiling to collapse at the International Arrival Terminal of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport early Thursday (March 5, 2026).

The incident occurred at around 12:20 a.m. WITA on the western side of the terminal, along the corridor leading to the online transportation counter.

Airport officials reported that intense rainfall and strong winds caused rainwater to accumulate on the terminal floor. The weather conditions also led to part of the ceiling structure falling in the affected area.

The water temporarily covered sections of the floor along the route toward the online transportation area. However, the falling ceiling materials only struck decorative plants located in the area and did not cause any injuries.

Security personnel from the Ngurah Rai Airport Police together with Aviation Security (Avsec) officers immediately secured the location and guided passengers, including newly arrived travelers, to use an alternative path through the main exit to avoid the affected section.

By approximately 12:50 a.m. WITA, airport cleaning staff had removed the pooled water and begun clearing debris from the fallen ceiling. The damaged materials were later transported to a storage area for further handling.

Acting Head of Public Relations at Ngurah Rai Airport Police, Ipda I Gede Suka Artana, confirmed that the situation was quickly brought under control.

“The incident was caused by heavy rain accompanied by strong winds in the Ngurah Rai Airport area. There were no casualties. Security personnel from the airport police together with Avsec officers and airport staff immediately secured the location and directed passengers to safe routes while cleaning staff handled the pooled water and fallen ceiling materials,” he said.

Authorities have also advised airport users to remain cautious amid the recent unpredictable weather conditions.

“We urge the public and airport users to stay aware of the dynamic weather conditions. If heavy rain and strong winds occur, please remain careful, follow the instructions of officers on site, and pay attention to personal safety and belongings while at the airport,” Suka Artana added.

Despite the incident, passenger activities at the International Arrival Terminal continued to operate normally with ongoing monitoring by airport security and operational teams.
