DENPASAR, DEWATA.NEWS – Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued an early warning for potentially high waves in several waters around Bali, with the advisory in effect from March 8 at 08:00 WITA until March 11 at 08:00 WITA.

Weather forecaster Ariantika from the BMKG Regional Office III in Denpasar said the warning is based on synoptic analysis showing prevailing wind patterns across the northern and southern waters of Bali.

“Wind patterns in the northern and southern waters of Bali are generally moving from the southwest to northwest with speeds ranging from 5 to 25 knots,” Ariantika explained on Saturday (March 7).

These conditions may trigger increased wave activity across several maritime routes around the island.

BMKG forecasts waves reaching heights of approximately 1.25 to 2.5 meters in several areas, including the southern Bali Strait, Badung Strait, the southern waters of Bali Island, and the southern Lombok Strait.

Authorities warn that such conditions may pose risks to maritime activities, particularly for smaller vessels operating in these waters.

Fishing boats may be affected when wind speeds reach around 15 knots with waves near 1.25 meters, while barge operations may face higher risk when wind speeds reach about 16 knots and waves approach 1.5 meters.

BMKG therefore urges fishermen, vessel operators, and people conducting activities at sea to remain vigilant regarding potential changes in weather and sea conditions during the warning period.

Maritime operators are also advised to monitor official weather updates before sailing to ensure safe navigation.
