BADUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – Police have arrested a 48-year-old man in connection with an electronic-based sexual violence case that occurred inside a women’s restroom at the international terminal of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali.
The suspect, identified by the initials DS from West Java, was detained after allegedly secretly recording a female victim and later threatening to distribute the footage.
Head of Public Relations for Ngurah Rai Airport Police, Ipda I Gede Suka Artana, said the case was uncovered following a police report filed on February 21, 2026 under Report Number LP-B/06/II/2026.
The suspect is being investigated under Article 14 paragraphs (1) and (2) of Indonesia’s Law No. 12 of 2022 on Sexual Violence Crimes.
According to police, the victim, identified by the initials NLPLW (22), reported receiving threats from the suspect via WhatsApp messages containing photos and videos with sexual content that had been secretly recorded while she was inside the restroom.
“The suspect allegedly recorded the victim while she was inside the toilet. He then used the footage to threaten the victim so she would comply with his demands,” Suka Artana said on Sunday (March 8).
Police said the suspect exploited the victim’s privacy by recording through a gap in the restroom door using his mobile phone.
After obtaining the recording, the suspect reportedly contacted the victim and threatened to distribute the content if she refused to follow his requests.
Following an investigation and crime scene analysis, the criminal investigation team led by Head of Criminal Investigation Unit AKP R. Ritonga traced the suspect’s whereabouts to Bekasi, West Java.
Officers arrested the suspect and seized several items of evidence, including a mobile phone, a black belt, and the photos and videos belonging to the victim stored on the suspect’s device.
During questioning, the suspect admitted to the act, telling investigators that his motive was an excessive personal interest in the victim combined with frustration after receiving no response from her.
Police said the incident caused psychological trauma to the victim, including anxiety, fear, and disruption to her daily activities.
“The suspect is currently being detained at the Ngurah Rai Airport Police detention facility for the ongoing investigation,” Suka Artana said.
Authorities emphasized their commitment to handling criminal cases professionally and urged members of the public to report any suspected crimes.
“We encourage the public to report immediately if they experience or witness criminal acts. Police will provide protection and take firm action against perpetrators in accordance with the law,” he added.
