BADUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – Police in Bali have fined a foreign tourist after a viral video showed a luxury sports car performing drifting maneuvers at a major intersection in Nusa Dua, raising concerns about road safety.

The incident involved a blue Porsche Boxster driven by a 29-year-old Russian national identified by the initials DR. The video circulating on social media showed the car drifting in the middle of an intersection, prompting criticism from local residents online.

Responding to the public reaction, Denpasar Traffic Police quickly launched an investigation and were able to identify both the driver and the vehicle involved.

“We do not give space to anyone, including foreign tourists, to ignore traffic rules and road safety,” said Denpasar Police spokesperson Iptu I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya on Friday (March 13).

“After the video went viral and became a leadership concern, our traffic unit immediately identified the vehicle and the driver.”

Early Morning Incident in Nusa Dua

According to police findings, the incident occurred at around 01:00 WITA on Friday (March 13) at the Simpang Pratama intersection in Nusa Dua, a busy junction connecting several major roads in the southern Bali tourism area.

Earlier that day, the driver had rented the Porsche Boxster from a local rental service. Initially, he drove around the Canggu area with the rental owner accompanying him in the passenger seat.

Later that evening, around 23:00 WITA, the driver decided to continue the trip alone and headed toward Nusa Dua.

Upon arriving at the intersection, the road conditions were reportedly quiet. Police said the driver then performed two drifting maneuvers in the middle of the junction before continuing his journey toward Kintamani early in the morning.

Police Issue Traffic Violation

Authorities later visited the rental car company and summoned the driver for questioning at the Denpasar Traffic Police unit.

Police confirmed that the driver received a traffic citation under Article 283 in conjunction with Article 107 of Indonesia’s Law No. 22 of 2009 on Road Traffic and Transportation.

“We have taken firm action in the form of a traffic ticket. This enforcement is intended to create a deterrent effect,” Iptu Adi said.

During questioning, the driver admitted his mistake and recorded a clarification video apologizing to the people of Bali for his reckless behavior, which could have endangered both himself and others.

Police also reminded both domestic and international visitors to respect local laws and road safety regulations while traveling in Bali.

“We urge all tourists to respect the rules and norms that apply in Bali. Road safety is our top priority, and monitoring will continue so that similar incidents do not happen again,” Iptu Adi added.
