BADUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – The body of a foreign tourist was discovered floating in waters off Nyang Nyang Beach in Pecatu, South Kuta, Badung Regency, on Sunday morning (March 15).
The body was first spotted by visitors at the beach at around 07:45 WITA. Witnesses reported seeing a person floating in the sea before notifying local authorities.
The victim was described as wearing a black long-sleeved shirt and black shorts at the time of discovery.
Denpasar Search and Rescue Office received a report about the incident at approximately 08:20 WITA from a local military officer stationed in Pecatu, who requested assistance with the evacuation.
“Our rescue personnel on duty received information from the Pecatu Babinsa requesting evacuation assistance after a body was found floating at sea,” said Denpasar Search and Rescue Office Head I Nyoman Sidakarya.
Authorities later identified the victim as Jonathan Joel Kennedy, a 39-year-old British national.
Four rescue personnel were dispatched to the location to assist with the evacuation process. About an hour later, the team arrived at Nyang Nyang Beach, where the body had already been brought to the shoreline.
Rescue personnel then transported the body to the upper parking area before transferring it to Prof. Ngoerah General Hospital in Denpasar using an ambulance from AL Mandiri Pecatu.
Several agencies were involved in the evacuation operation, including the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office, the Denpasar Police Water Unit, South Kuta Police, Pecatu village authorities, Balawista lifeguards from South Kuta, and local residents.
Authorities have not released further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident.
