KLUNGKUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – A 49-year-old foreign tourist from the United States was temporarily detained by police following a public disturbance incident in Nusa Penida, Bali, on Monday afternoon (March 30, 2026).
The individual, identified by initials JJS, was reported by local residents after allegedly shouting inappropriate remarks along Jalan Raya Mentigi in Batununggul Village. Witnesses said the man appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
Police responded quickly after receiving reports from the community. Officers arrived at the scene and secured the individual without further disruption to the surrounding area.
“From the initial examination, the individual’s actions were triggered by personal issues,” said Nusa Penida Police Chief Kompol I Ketut Kesuma Jaya. “Thanks to the quick response of officers, the situation was brought under control without any material damage or injuries.”
Authorities transported the tourist to the Nusa Penida police station for further questioning. Following the assessment, officers issued a formal warning and guidance to prevent similar behavior in the future.
The individual expressed regret over the incident and assured authorities that it would not be repeated. After the situation stabilized, representatives from the hostel where he was staying arrived to pick him up.
“He stated that he plans to check out on March 31, 2026, and continue his journey to Denpasar,” Kesuma Jaya added.
The incident did not result in injuries or property damage. However, it briefly raised concern among local residents in the area, which is a popular transit route for visitors exploring Nusa Penida.
For international visitors, the case highlights the importance of maintaining respectful behavior in public spaces, particularly in local communities across Bali.
