DENPASAR, DEWATA.NEWS – A 14-year-old Indian national was found dead in a hotel swimming pool in East Denpasar on Wednesday night (April 1), in an incident believed to be a drowning. The teenager had been in Bali to participate in an international football tournament.
East Denpasar Police Chief Kompol Ketut Tomiyasa confirmed the incident, which occurred at a hotel located on Jalan By-pass Ngurah Rai, Kesiman, Kertalangu.
According to witness statements, a hotel staff member identified as AV (21) noticed something unusual at around 21:10 WITA while crossing a bridge above the pool after disposing of trash.
“The witness saw a dark shadow at the bottom of the pool and immediately called an engineering staff member,” Tomiyasa said.
Hotel staff, including engineering personnel, security, restaurant staff, and receptionists, responded to the scene. The victim was retrieved from the pool and brought to a nearby gazebo area.
At the time of discovery, the teenager was wearing shorts, a green shirt, and white socks. Initial attempts to revive the victim, including chest compressions, showed no response.
The victim was then transported to Dharma Yadnya Hospital using a hotel vehicle, where medical personnel later confirmed the death.
Police said the victim had been staying at the hotel with his football team for several days prior to the incident. The group had planned to participate in an international tournament in Bali.
A team manager, identified as AK (26), stated that earlier in the evening around 19:30 WITA, several individuals were seen swimming in both the children’s and adult pools, while others were playing football nearby. However, he admitted he was not closely monitoring the pool area at the time.
“I was not focused on the children in the pool because I was on a phone call,” he said.
Later that evening at around 20:23 WITA, the manager and several team members left the hotel for dinner in the Sanur area. The victim chose to remain at the hotel.
During dinner, the manager received a call informing him that the teenager had drowned. He immediately returned to the hotel and later went to the hospital with team members.
Police believe the victim drowned in a pool with an estimated depth of two meters. A forensic team has conducted an initial examination, and no signs of physical violence were found.
“There were no indications of violence. A small amount of white foam was observed from the victim’s nose. We are still waiting for the autopsy results,” Tomiyasa said.
The body has been transferred to Bali Mandara Hospital for further examination as authorities continue the investigation.
