BADUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – Two Russian nationals were rescued after becoming trapped on a cliff in the Uluwatu area, Pecatu, South Kuta, Badung, on Thursday (April 23) at around 11:30 WITA. The victims were identified as Sergei Starostin (51) and Diana Zolotova (20).

The incident was reported after a beach club employee received a call from an unidentified person requesting help for individuals stranded at the location. The report was then forwarded to South Kuta Police and followed up by officers from the Water Police Unit (Satpolairud) of Denpasar Police.

Police spokesperson Iptu I Gede Adhy Saputra Jaya said officers immediately coordinated with search and rescue teams upon receiving the report.

“The team proceeded to the location and coordinated with Basarnas Denpasar for evacuation,” he said.

A Basarnas rescue team arrived at the scene at approximately 14:15 WITA and assessed the situation. Due to the steep and difficult terrain, evacuation by land was deemed unsafe.

Authorities then deployed a helicopter from SGI Benoa to assist with the rescue operation. The aircraft arrived at around 14:58 WITA, and the evacuation was carried out using a hoisting system to lift both victims from the cliff area.

“Both victims were successfully evacuated, and the operation went smoothly,” Iptu Adhy added.

Following the rescue, the two tourists were taken for medical treatment. Officials said they were still experiencing shock and had not yet been able to provide further statements.

The incident highlights ongoing safety risks in cliffside areas such as Uluwatu, which remain popular among tourists for their scenic coastal views but can pose hazards if accessed without proper caution.
