GIANYAR, DEWATA.NEWS – Authorities in Ubud carried out a routine public order operation on Tuesday (May 5), detaining 20 individuals identified as beggars and homeless persons in key tourism areas.

The operation was led by the Gianyar Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) in coordination with local security units, including military personnel (Babinsa) and traditional village security (pecalang).

Enforcement focused on high-traffic tourist zones such as Jalan Raya Pengosekan, the Monkey Forest area, and Jalan Cok Sudarsana.

According to Gianyar Satpol PP Head Putu Yudanegara, the operation is part of a coordinated and ongoing effort to maintain public order in Ubud, one of Bali’s most visited international destinations.

Among those detained were 10 adults, one male and nine females and 10 children. Authorities stated that most individuals involved were repeat cases who had previously been returned to their home region in Karangasem.

“Most of them are repeat individuals. Almost every day, we escort residents from Karangasem back to their local social services for repatriation,” Yudanegara said.

He emphasized that enforcement will continue without delay, even for small numbers of violations, as part of efforts to preserve Ubud’s image as a safe and comfortable destination for visitors and residents.

“We do not need to wait for large numbers. Even one or two individuals will be immediately handled. This is part of our commitment to maintaining Ubud as a secure and pleasant tourism area,” he added.

All individuals detained during the operation have been transferred back to Karangasem Regency, where they will undergo further handling by local social services.

The enforcement reflects ongoing local government measures to manage public order in areas with high tourist activity, particularly in Ubud, which attracts international visitors year-round.
