DENPASAR, DEWATA.NEWS – A 67-year-old Belgian national was found injured inside his rented room at a boarding house in West Denpasar after a caretaker noticed a foul smell coming from the room on Wednesday (May 20).

The man, identified by his initials RLPJ, was discovered lying on his bed with several visible injuries at a boarding house on Jalan Bantas Sari in Pemecutan Klod Village, West Denpasar.

West Denpasar Police Chief Kompol Ni Wayan Adnyani Prabawati said officers had questioned several witnesses following the incident.

According to police, the discovery was made around 5:00 p.m. WITA by boarding house caretaker Misrifa, 47, while she was sweeping the area in front of the victim’s room.

After smelling an unpleasant odor coming from inside, she retrieved a spare key from the staff room to check the condition of the occupant. However, the room door was reportedly already unlocked.

“The witness entered the room and saw the victim lying on the bed. She also noticed a strong unpleasant odor coming from the victim,” Adnyani said on Thursday (May 21).

Unable to remain inside due to the smell, the caretaker immediately contacted local pecalang officers from Banjar Mergaya. Community security officers and local police personnel arrived at the scene shortly afterward.

At around 6:15 p.m. WITA, the victim was evacuated by Denpasar Red Cross (PMI) personnel and transported to Prof. Ngoerah General Hospital in Sanglah, Denpasar, for medical treatment.

Police said initial examinations indicated the Belgian national suffers from diabetes. Authorities also confirmed that the victim was still conscious and able to communicate clearly when evacuated.

“From the initial examination, the victim has diabetes. He was conscious and still able to communicate clearly,” Adnyani added.

Authorities have not reported any signs of criminal activity related to the incident, and the case remains under further observation.
