KLUNGKUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – Severe coastal erosion has displaced 12 families from Mongalan Beach in Kusamba Village, prompting local authorities to prepare an urgent relocation plan as extreme waves continue to threaten the shoreline.
The situation was discussed during a coordination meeting on Friday (April 10, 2026), led by Klungkung Deputy Regent Tjokorda Gde Surya Putra at the Kusamba Village Office. The meeting focused on relocating residents whose homes have been destroyed or are no longer safe due to ongoing abrasion.
Village head Nengah Semadi Adnyana confirmed that all 12 affected households have been directly impacted by the coastal damage. Of these, seven families have no alternative land or housing options.
“These seven families will be prioritized to move into the Santhi Rahayu row housing in Sulang Village,” he said.
Local authorities emphasized that the relocation process needs to be carried out as soon as possible, given the continued risk posed by high waves along the Kusamba coastline.
Deputy Regent Tjokorda Gde Surya Putra described the condition of Mongalan Beach as critically damaged, highlighting the urgency of government intervention.
“The condition at Mongalan Beach is already very severe due to abrasion. We are taking swift action to relocate residents to safer and more comfortable areas so they can have proper housing,” he stated.
The relocation initiative is part of immediate disaster response efforts to ensure the safety of coastal communities, while longer-term solutions for shoreline protection remain under consideration.
For international visitors and residents, the incident highlights the growing impact of coastal erosion in parts of Bali, particularly during periods of extreme weather and high tides.
