BADUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – Authorities in Bali are investigating the discovery of an unidentified body found on the rocky shoreline of Gau Beach in South Kuta, Badung, on Sunday afternoon (April 19, 2026).
The body was first discovered by a local fisherman, Ketut Sumiasa, 55, who had arrived at the beach around 15:00 WITA to fish. Upon reaching the area, he noticed a human body lying face down on rocks near the shoreline.
According to Denpasar Police spokesperson Iptu Gede Adi Saputra Jaya, the victim was found wearing only underwear, with the body in a prone position and hands folded in front of the chest.
“The witness approached the body and observed that it had already turned bluish,” he said on Monday (April 20).
Shocked by the discovery, the fisherman sought help and informed another local resident, Wayan Sukarta, 53, who then reported the incident to authorities. Sumiasa returned to the scene to monitor the body and prevent it from being carried away by the tide.
Police officers from the Denpasar Water and Air Unit and South Kuta Police arrived shortly after, accessing the beach via a steep cliff path. A search and rescue team from Basarnas joined the operation approximately 20 minutes later.
The joint team evacuated the unidentified victim, referred to as Mr. X, from the rocky area. The body was then transported to Prof. Ngoerah General Hospital in Denpasar for further examination.
Police are coordinating with medical authorities to determine the cause of death and confirm the identity of the victim. Investigations are ongoing.
