DENPASAR, DEWATA.NEWS – A foreign national from Italy has drawn public attention after a confrontation with a traffic police officer in Denpasar was captured on video and circulated widely on social media.

The incident occurred on Wednesday (April 22, 2026) at around 13:00 WITA on Jalan Gunung Agung, West Denpasar, involving a traffic officer identified as Aiptu Yulius from the Denpasar Traffic Unit.

According to police, the individual, identified by initials GI, was stopped while riding a motorcycle without wearing a helmet. He was also carrying a passenger, an Indonesian woman, who was not wearing a helmet.

“The officer stopped the rider after observing a traffic violation, specifically not wearing a helmet, and proceeded to check the rider’s documents and identity,” said Denpasar Police spokesperson Iptu I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya.

When informed about the traffic ticket, GI reportedly reacted emotionally and refused to accept the penalty. The situation escalated briefly, resulting in physical pushing between the individual and the officer.

Despite the confrontation, the officer continued with standard enforcement procedures.

“The officer issued a traffic ticket as the individual had violated traffic regulations. The motorcycle was also seized as evidence,” the spokesperson added.

Authorities confirmed that the incident is being handled in accordance with applicable regulations. The viral video has prompted reminders for both residents and visitors to comply with local traffic laws.
