KLUNGKUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – A Norwegian national identified as MEB (34) has died after being struck by a boat while spearfishing in the waters of Tanjung Pakaang, Lembongan, Nusa Penida, on Saturday (May 2).

Police said the incident occurred at around 9:40 AM WITA when the victim was in the water with a group. A snorkeling boat passing through the area reportedly collided with the victim, causing him to submerge.

Nusa Penida Police Chief I Ketut Kesuma Jaya confirmed that officers responded immediately after receiving the report.

“We acted quickly at the scene, including evacuating the victim, securing the area, and collecting witness statements. We also coordinated with medical teams and relevant agencies for further handling,” he said.

According to witnesses, the victim was later brought to the surface by one of the boat passengers before being transported to Toyapakeh Harbor for emergency treatment.

Medical personnel attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for approximately one hour, but the victim could not be revived and was declared dead.

The body was subsequently evacuated from Nusa Penida to Prof. Dr. I.G.N.G. Ngoerah General Hospital in Denpasar for further procedures.

Preliminary examination indicated multiple injuries, including bruising on the lower right chest, a fractured right leg, and a laceration on the right thigh.

Police are continuing their investigation, including gathering statements from witnesses and examining the involvement of the boat operator.

The incident highlights potential risks in shared marine activity zones where snorkeling and spearfishing activities take place simultaneously.
