KARANGASEM, DEWATA.NEWS – A fast boat operating on the Gili Trawangan – Padangbai route experienced a hull leak while passing through waters off Amed, Abang District, Karangasem, on Monday (March 2, 2026). All passengers were successfully evacuated without injury.
The vessel, Putri Island 02, was carrying 117 people, including crew members. According to Karangasem Water Police Chief AKP I Gede Murdana, 108 of the passengers were foreign nationals.
“When the boat reached the waters of Amed, it suffered a hull fracture at the front bow section, specifically near the steering area,” Murdana said on Tuesday (March 3, 2026).
The damage is believed to have been caused by strong waves striking the vessel from the front. Seawater entered the cabin area, triggering a navigation system short circuit.
Videos circulating on social media showed several foreign passengers still inside the boat as water entered the vessel before the evacuation process began.
Following the incident, the captain, identified as Fahrul Rosi, reported the situation to the operating company. Another fast boat, Wijaya Perkasa, was immediately dispatched to the location to evacuate all passengers, with assistance from related authorities.
All evacuees were transferred to the Wijaya Perkasa vessel and transported safely to Padangbai Public Port. The Putri Island 02 also managed to dock safely afterward.
“All passengers and crew members are safe. There were no injuries reported,” Murdana confirmed.
Authorities have not reported further operational disruptions on the route. Investigations into the exact cause of the hull damage are ongoing.
