DENPASAR, DEWATA.NEWS – More than 150 surfers from Indonesia and abroad took part in the annual Serangan Board Riders Challenge, a community-driven competition held at Serangan Beach and supported for the third time by the Kura Kura Bali Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

The event, organized by the Serangan village surfing community, aims to develop young talent, strengthen competitive skills, and build connections among surfers across different age groups and countries.

Participants competed in multiple categories, including junior under 18, longboard (men and women), and shortboard (men and women), reflecting a broad talent pool from grassroots to advanced levels.

Event committee head Komang Indra said the competition serves as a platform to identify and nurture future professional surfers.

“We are committed to developing young athletes who are serious and competitive. Through this event, we want to show that Serangan has strong potential, both in wave quality and athlete development,” he said.

He added that training programs are actively conducted for youth aged 10 to 18 from local schools, ensuring a continuous pipeline of new surfers from the area.

The competition also attracted international participants from countries including India, South Korea, and Japan, highlighting its growing regional appeal and role in fostering global surfing networks.

National surfer I Made Pajar Aryana, who originates from Serangan and has competed in international events such as the Asian Surfing Championship in the Maldives and the World Surf League (WSL) Junior Championship in the Philippines, welcomed the continued support for the event.

“I’m very happy that Kura Kura Bali supports this event, not only during competitions but also during training and preparation,” he said, adding that proper facilities are essential for athlete development.

The Indonesian Surfing Association (PSOI) Denpasar also expressed support for the event, noting that Serangan Beach offers consistent wave conditions suitable for competitive surfing.

Meanwhile, representatives from Kura Kura Bali emphasized that their support reflects ongoing collaboration with the local community.

“We are proud to support the Serangan Board Riders community and hope it continues to grow as a platform for developing talent from local to global levels,” said Zefri Alfaruqy from the SEZ management.

The event underscores Serangan Beach’s role not only as a surfing destination but also as a development hub for young athletes aiming to compete internationally.
