DENPASAR, DEWATA.NEWS – Bali Governor Wayan Koster has officially launched the Second-Level Domain bali.id, marking a significant step in strengthening the island’s digital identity and cultural presence in the global online space. The launch took place on Thursday, 11 December, at the Ksirarnawa Building, Taman Werdhi Budaya – Art Centre, Denpasar.
The event was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, Universitas Udayana leadership, PANDI officials, academics, IT practitioners, creative industry players, media representatives, digital communities, Balinese language facilitators, and other invited guests.
In his remarks, Governor Koster emphasized that bali.id is more than a new digital address, it is a modern branding symbol rooted in Balinese cultural identity.
“The launch of bali.id is a concrete expression of Bali’s cultural sovereignty in the digital world,” he stated.
The initiative aligns with the Nangun Sat Kerthi Loka Bali development vision and supports priority programs for 2025–2030, particularly in the Creative and Digital Economy sectors and the Bali Digital Island initiative.
The bali.id domain is expected to serve as a new platform for MSMEs, traditional villages, young talents, academics, and creative industries to showcase their work and identity on a global stage while staying grounded in local wisdom.
Governor Koster also highlighted the inclusion of Balinese script within the domain ecosystem, calling it an important milestone for cultural representation online.
“Balinese script is now recognized not only in Bali but also in the global digital sphere,” he added.
During the event, Governor Koster announced the next strategic step: pursuing the registration of a Geographic Top-Level Domain (gTLD) .BALI with ICANN. The Bali Provincial Government and PANDI have already signed a memorandum of understanding as the initial phase.
If approved, .BALI would place the island alongside other global destinations with geographic domains such as .tokyo, .paris, and .nyc, further strengthening Bali’s international digital identity.
