BADUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – A sea turtle was found stranded on Kuta Beach, Badung Regency, on Thursday (January 22, 2026) at around 10:00 WITA. The turtle was identified as an olive ridley sea turtle (Lepidochelys olivacea).

The turtle, estimated to weigh between 20 and 30 kilograms, was first discovered by a beach vendor. At the time, it was found alongside marine debris that had been washed ashore by ocean currents. Beach officers quickly secured the animal to prevent further harm.

“It was stranded after being carried by ocean currents along with incoming marine debris,” said Kuta Beach Attraction Assistant Manager I Putu Gilang Bayu Sadra Putra on Thursday.

He explained that similar incidents are relatively common at Kuta Beach, particularly during the west monsoon season, when strong winds and currents affect marine conditions along Bali’s southern coastline.

“During the west monsoon, it is not unusual for turtles to become stranded in this area,” he said.

When first found, the turtle was still alive but appeared weak and unable to move. Officials believe the condition was caused by prolonged exposure to rough sea conditions, combined with repeated impacts from large pieces of driftwood and other debris.

“It had likely been drifting for too long at sea and was struck by floating wooden debris, which affected its condition,” Gilang added.

The turtle was subsequently evacuated and handed over to the Serangan Turtle Conservation Center, where it was taken to a veterinary clinic for medical treatment and further observation.
