BADUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – The Badung Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) has conducted an on-site inspection of the Canggu Hill project following widespread discussion on social media about a possible mall development in the Canggu area, North Kuta.
The inspection was carried out to verify the actual activities taking place at the site, which covers approximately 10 hectares of land that previously consisted of vacant plots and rice fields. According to officials, current activities are limited to land arrangement and infrastructure preparation, not mall construction.
Head of Early Warning Section at Badung Satpol PP, I Wayan Suartana, said the inspection was ordered directly by the head of the agency to ensure all development activities comply with existing regulations.
“Due to the intense discussion on social media, we were instructed to conduct a direct site inspection on 22 January to verify the ongoing activities,” Suartana said on Thursday (29 January).
Based on information obtained during the visit, the company’s legal representatives stated that plans to build a mall remain only a concept and have not progressed beyond early discussions.
“According to them, the mall project is still only a plan,” he added.
Suartana explained that Satpol PP officers from the Early Warning Section have met with the project developer, PT Asia Mas Realty, which is developing the Canggu Hill area. Current work on site is focused on land arrangement and the construction of access roads across the 10-hectare area.
He also noted that a bridge has already been built to connect the neighboring villages of Tumbak Bayuh and Pererenan, supporting access between the two areas.
According to Satpol PP, the ongoing land arrangement activities have met the required permitting obligations under Badung Regency regulations. As for the possibility of a mall development, the developer has not made any commitments and is still assessing feasibility.
“At this stage, the focus is on residential development,” Suartana said.
Badung Satpol PP head I Gusti Agung Ketut Suryanegara confirmed that the project’s Spatial Use Suitability Approval (KKPR) has been validated by the Badung Public Works and Spatial Planning Office (PUPR).
“The approved plan is for a residential area,” Suryanegara said.
He added that any future large-scale development would also require an Environmental Impact Assessment (AMDAL). For now, activities at the site remain limited to road arrangement and preliminary infrastructure work.
