KARANGASEM, DEWATA.NEWS – Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) officers in Karangasem Regency forcibly demolished a tourism accommodation building found to be violating coastal setback regulations in Banjar Dinas Lean, Bunutan Village, on Wednesday (Feb 11).
The demolition was carried out after the property owner ignored three formal warning letters issued by Satpol PP Karangasem.
Head of Satpol PP Karangasem, Ida Bagus Eka Ananta Wijaya, said the agency had previously delivered Warning Letters 1 through 3 to the owner before proceeding with enforcement.
“After the third warning letter, there was no action from the owner to dismantle the structure independently. Therefore, today we carried out the demolition,” he said.
To execute the demolition, officers deployed one unit of heavy equipment. According to Ananta Wijaya, additional machinery was not used to avoid disrupting traffic, as the building is located near a main road.
“We are targeting completion of this demolition within one to two days,” he added.
He also stated that authorities will continue conducting inspections and monitoring buildings that violate spatial and coastal regulations.
“Business operators must follow the applicable regulations when constructing buildings,” he said.
Bunutan Village Head I Made Suparwatha expressed support for the enforcement action, stating appreciation for Satpol PP’s firm measures against structures violating coastal boundaries.
Meanwhile, Head of the Karangasem Investment and One-Stop Integrated Service Office (DPMPTSP), I Komang Suarnata, explained that his office had issued prior warnings to the property owner since November 2025.
“We previously issued warning letters, but they were not heeded. Going forward, we ask investors to invest responsibly, meaning land ownership and certification must be clear and legally valid,” he said.
Coastal setback regulations in Bali are intended to protect shoreline ecosystems and maintain sustainable spatial planning, particularly in tourism-heavy areas vulnerable to environmental degradation.
