DENPASAR, DEWATA.NEWS – Efforts to improve traffic management in Sanur are showing early results, as a shuttle bus service introduced by Denpasar City Government helps reduce illegal parking and congestion in key tourist areas.

The service, now managed by BUPDA Intaran (a village-owned enterprise under the local customary village), has been particularly effective along busy roads such as Jalan Danau Tamblingan, where roadside parking previously contributed to traffic bottlenecks.

BUPDA Intaran business representative I Wayan Robi said the shuttle system provides an alternative for visitors and residents, encouraging them to park in designated areas and continue their journey using public transport.

“Residents and tourists are encouraged to use available parking areas or partner with local residents. If the distance is far, they can continue using the shuttle service,” he said on Sunday (April 26).

Authorities continue to conduct regular monitoring and enforcement to ensure compliance, even as the number of illegal parking cases has significantly decreased.

The shuttle operates in two service categories. The first is a daily fixed-route service, carrying an average of more than 100 passengers per day. Fares are set at IDR 5,000 for a 90-minute travel period using an electronic card system.

“Each tap is important as it helps us evaluate routes and service needs. The 90-minute fare allows multiple rides within that time, as long as passengers tap their card,” Robi explained.

The second category is a booking-based service for special needs such as hotel events or ceremonies, priced at IDR 500,000 per unit for up to four hours within the customary village area.

For local residents of Intaran, subsidized fares are available at IDR 2,000 per trip with valid identification. Monthly subscription schemes are also offered, ranging from IDR 50,000 to IDR 100,000, often covered by employers for workers in the Sanur area.

Head of Denpasar Transportation Agency I Ketut Sriawan said a total of 12 shuttle units are currently operating to support mobility in Sanur.

The initiative is supported by Denpasar Mayor Regulation No. 39 of 2025 on traffic and transport management within the Sanur Low Emission Zone.

“This regulation provides a foundation for creating an efficient and environmentally friendly transport system,” Sriawan said.

The program aligns with Denpasar’s broader goal of developing Sanur as a sustainable tourism destination with reduced congestion and better traffic organization.

Authorities plan to continue evaluating the system and expand route connectivity to cover more strategic locations in the future.
