BADUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – Nighttime activity along Jalan Pemelisan Agung in Tibubeneng, North Kuta, has intensified, drawing large crowds of domestic and international visitors. However, alongside the growing popularity of the area’s nightlife scene, concerns are rising over illegal parking practices that are disrupting public space and traffic flow.

The street, known for popular venues such as Jade by Todd English and Rivera Bistro, has become increasingly congested, particularly on Saturday nights. Observations on May 2 from around 22:00 WITA showed heavy traffic and crowded sidewalks, with many motorcycles parked along pedestrian pathways.

Several security personnel were seen guarding sections of the sidewalk, restricting access and reserving space for venue patrons. “You can’t park here. This is only for our guests,” one security guard told motorists attempting to park.

Due to limited official parking facilities, sidewalks have effectively been converted into informal parking areas. Unofficial attendants were also observed directing vehicles and charging a flat fee of IDR 10,000 per motorcycle, without issuing any formal receipt.

“This is only for entertainment venue visitors. The fee is IDR 10,000 for everyone,” said one parking attendant at the location.

The situation has raised concerns over pedestrian safety and the misuse of public infrastructure in a key tourism zone. Sidewalks, intended for pedestrians, are increasingly inaccessible during peak hours.

Head of Badung Public Order Agency (Satpol PP), I Gusti Agung Ketut Suryanegara, confirmed that authorities will take action. “We will conduct inspections and enforce regulations accordingly,” he said.

The crackdown is part of broader efforts by the Badung administration to address traffic congestion and restore order in high-traffic tourism areas. Regent I Wayan Adi Arnawa has instructed relevant agencies to coordinate with police and local authorities to tackle illegal parking.

“Take firm action against illegal parking. Coordination with police and local authorities is essential,” he emphasized.

For visitors, the issue highlights a common challenge in Bali’s busiest nightlife districts, where infrastructure often struggles to keep pace with increasing tourism demand.
