BADUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – A middle-aged Australian national was found living in an abandoned building in the Legian area of Kuta, Badung, before eventually agreeing to medical treatment after intervention from his country’s consulate.

Local Public Order officers (Satpol PP) discovered the man on Jalan Sunset Road on Tuesday (April 14, 2026), following a request from the Australian Consulate to check on his condition.

According to field commander I Wayan Suantara, the man was found with a leg injury that left him unable to walk.

“We found a foreign national in poor condition. His leg appeared injured, possibly due to an infection, and he could not walk,” Suantara said on Friday (April 17).

Officers initially attempted to persuade the man to seek medical attention, but he refused assistance at the time.

“We tried to convince him to go to the hospital, but he declined,” he added.

Authorities believe the refusal may have been influenced by personal trauma and a lack of trust. The man reportedly shared concerns about a previous incident involving a local acquaintance who had taken his motorcycle and had not returned it.

Following the encounter, the individual requested to communicate directly with the Australian Consulate. Officials then coordinated with consular representatives to handle the situation.

On Wednesday (April 15), the consulate met with the individual and successfully persuaded him to receive medical care.

He has since been admitted to Prof. Ngoerah General Hospital in Denpasar for further treatment, particularly for his leg condition. His case is now being handled by the Australian Consulate.

Authorities did not report any criminal elements in the case, which is being treated as a welfare and public safety matter.
