DENPASAR, DEWATA.NEWS – A Bali legislator has raised concerns over the increasing number of foreign tourists riding motorbikes without helmets, urging stricter enforcement to improve road safety across the island.

I Made Rai Warsa, a member of the Bali Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), said the behavior is frequently observed on busy roads, where some foreign riders are also seen driving recklessly.

“This is clearly dangerous,” Rai Warsa said on Monday (April 13), referring to tourists riding without proper safety gear.

He noted that such actions not only put the riders at risk but also disrupt other road users, including motorcyclists, car drivers, and pedestrians.

To address the issue, Rai Warsa proposed stronger enforcement measures targeting foreign tourists who violate traffic rules, particularly those driving motorbikes without helmets or in a reckless manner.

“This is for the safety of the foreign tourists themselves,” he added.

According to him, improved enforcement could also have a positive economic impact on local transportation providers. He suggested that stricter regulations may encourage tourists to rely more on licensed transport services such as ride-hailing drivers and local transport operators.

“With better enforcement, local transport services could see increased demand,” he explained.

The call reflects ongoing concerns about road safety in Bali, where traffic conditions can become congested, especially in popular tourist areas. Authorities are expected to continue monitoring and addressing traffic violations involving both local residents and foreign visitors.
