BADUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – Residents near a gas station in Darmasaba, Abiansemal, remain concerned nearly a week after a sidewalk explosion, as a strong fuel odor continues to linger in the surrounding area.
The incident occurred on April 17, 2026, near a fuel station in Banjar Menesa. As of Wednesday (April 22), locals report that the smell of gasoline is still present, particularly from drainage channels mixed with water, raising fears of a possible leak and fire risk.
Sinta Natasya, who works at a beauty salon adjacent to the site, said the odor has persisted since the explosion.
“Since the blast, the gasoline smell has continued. It briefly disappeared during heavy rain, but returned later in the day and is still present now,” she said.
She added that the situation has disrupted daily activities and affected local businesses, with some customers avoiding the area due to safety concerns.
“We hope this is fixed soon. It’s very disturbing, and we can’t operate normally. Some nearby businesses have even closed temporarily due to fear of another explosion,” she explained.
Residents also revealed that the gasoline smell had been noticeable days before the incident, though it was initially assumed to be part of routine fuel handling.
“We had already smelled gasoline about a week before the explosion, but didn’t think it was a leak. Only after the sidewalk was damaged did we realize the seriousness,” she added.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the incident. A technician at the gas station, I Wayan Budiarta, said investigations are ongoing, involving both police and Pertamina.
“Routine checks are carried out, but we are still waiting for the official investigation results from the authorities,” he said.
Officials have not issued a formal safety advisory, but the lingering odor continues to raise concerns among residents about potential risks in the area.
