BADUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – Police have identified the previously unknown body discovered on the rocky shoreline of Gau Beach in South Kuta as a 26-year-old man from West Java, following ongoing investigation by local authorities.
The victim, identified by initials GFS, was confirmed by joint personnel from the Denpasar Water and Air Police Unit and Criminal Investigation Unit after further inquiries and verification.
Denpasar Police spokesperson Iptu Gede Adhy Saputra said officers have visited the victim’s rented accommodation on Jalan Gunung Cemara in West Denpasar and secured CCTV footage as part of the investigation.
“Officers also visited the parking area at Melasti Beach in Ungasan, where the victim is believed to have left his motorcycle, along with his clothing and mobile phone,” he said on Monday (April 20).
According to statements from the victim’s mother, identified as NK (56), GFS had been working in Bali for approximately five months. She reported losing contact with him since Sunday (April 19).
The general manager of the beverage business where the victim was employed confirmed that GFS had been working there for around five months and was last seen at work on Saturday (April 18). No issues were reported between the victim and colleagues or management during his employment.
Police are currently investigating the victim’s last known movements, particularly his presence at Melasti Beach prior to being found at Gau Beach.
“We are still tracing the victim’s initial location at Melasti Beach before he was found at the scene. It is suspected that he may have been swept away by currents while swimming, but the investigation is ongoing,” said Kompol Wiastu Andrie Prajitno, Head of the Water and Air Police Unit.
Preliminary medical examination results indicated multiple injuries, including abrasions and bruises on the face, hands, legs, and feet.
The body was initially discovered by a fisherman on Sunday afternoon, lodged among rocks along the shoreline. At the time, the victim was found wearing only underwear, in a prone position.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
