BADUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – Authorities in Badung Regency have launched a large-scale operation to organize messy overhead utility cables in Seminyak, targeting improved safety and a cleaner streetscape in one of Bali’s busiest tourism areas.

The operation took place along Jalan Raya Basangkasa, Seminyak, Kuta, on Friday (April 24), led by the Badung Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency (PUPR) through its Utility Control Team.

Officials said the initiative is part of an accelerated program to address tangled aerial cables that have long affected the area’s visual appeal and posed risks to pedestrians.

The enforcement involved multiple stakeholders, including local government agencies, the Indonesian Telecommunications Providers Association (APJATEL), Telkom Indonesia, and legal oversight from the Badung District Prosecutor’s Office.

Head of Road Infrastructure at PUPR Badung, Teddy Widnyana Putra, stated that the program has been running since last year and is now carried out twice a month under directives from regional leaders.

“This activity has been ongoing since last year and has already covered several areas. It is now conducted twice a month as part of efforts to accelerate the regulation of messy utility networks. Beyond aesthetics, pedestrian safety is also a key priority,” he said.

Authorities emphasized that the program focuses not only on visual improvements but also on reducing hazards caused by low-hanging or disorganized cables along public roads.

Meanwhile, Head of Badung Public Order Agency (Satpol PP), IGAK Suryanegara, warned that stricter enforcement would follow if service providers fail to comply. The government has already provided underground cable infrastructure as an alternative.

“If violations continue after this operation, we will take firm action. Cables will be removed, and providers may face fines of up to IDR 50 million or up to six months in detention,” he said.

Local residents have welcomed the initiative. Community leader I Wayan Gde Budi Indrawan expressed support for the government’s commitment to improving the area.

“We hope Badung can be free from messy cables and excessive poles. This effort should continue regularly, not just as a one-time action,” he said.

Authorities expect the program to create a more organized, safer, and visually appealing environment in Seminyak, reinforcing Badung’s position as a world-class tourism destination.
