DENPASAR, DEWATA.NEWS – An Italian national identified as GI is set to be deported following a viral incident involving a confrontation with a traffic police officer in Denpasar earlier this week.

The decision comes after a joint operation by the Denpasar Police Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) and Intelligence Unit (Satintelkam), in coordination with Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, which secured the individual and recommended deportation.

Denpasar Police Chief Kombes Pol. Leonardo David Simatupang said the swift action reflects authorities’ commitment to maintaining public order, especially in Bali as an international tourism destination.

“We will not tolerate any actions that disrupt public order. This response shows strong coordination between police and immigration to ensure Bali remains safe and conducive,” he stated on Friday (April 24).

Based on the investigation, GI has been formally proposed for deportation and handed over to immigration authorities for further processing in accordance with Indonesian law.

Police said the measure is expected to serve as a deterrent, particularly for foreign nationals, to respect local laws and social norms while staying in Indonesia.

The case is a follow-up to a widely circulated video showing the Italian tourist confronting a traffic officer at an intersection on Jalan Gunung Agung–Jalan Mahendradata, West Denpasar, on Wednesday (April 22) at around 13:00 WITA.

According to police, GI was stopped while riding a motorcycle without wearing a helmet and carrying an Indonesian passenger. When issued a traffic ticket, he reportedly reacted aggressively and pushed the officer, identified as Aiptu Yulius.

Despite the confrontation, the officer proceeded with issuing the citation and securing the vehicle as evidence.

Authorities have urged both residents and international visitors to comply with local regulations to help maintain a safe and orderly environment across Bali.
