BADUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – Authorities in Badung Regency are preparing new traffic engineering measures to address persistent congestion in Canggu, one of Bali’s busiest tourism and residential areas.

The Badung Transportation Agency (Dishub Badung) has begun conducting field assessments to identify the most effective traffic management strategy for the area, where increasing vehicle volumes have become a growing concern for residents, businesses, and visitors.

Head of the Badung Transportation Agency, AA Gde Ngurah Rahmadi, said Canggu remains one of the agency’s priority areas due to its rapid development and heavy daily traffic.

“Canggu is one of our main concerns. Our team has started mapping conditions on the ground to determine the most effective traffic engineering pattern,” Rahmadi said on Thursday (28/5).

According to him, the study will serve as the foundation for future traffic management policies aimed at reducing congestion on several roads that regularly experience heavy traffic, particularly during peak hours.

Canggu has evolved from a residential area into one of Bali’s most popular tourism destinations, attracting large numbers of domestic and international visitors while also supporting a growing expatriate community and hospitality sector.

Rahmadi noted that traffic congestion in the area has become a key issue not only for the Transportation Agency but also for the Badung Regency Government, including direct attention from the regent.

“We hope the traffic engineering measures can become a solution to the congestion problems that have occurred for years, especially on roads that frequently experience heavy traffic during busy periods,” he said.

However, authorities confirmed that the Canggu traffic management plan will not be implemented immediately.

The agency is currently prioritizing a separate traffic engineering project on the Jalan Pecatu–Toyaning corridor in South Kuta, which is scheduled to take effect on 1 June.

Officials said they want to ensure the Pecatu–Toyaning scheme operates effectively before introducing a similar approach in Canggu.

“The Canggu implementation will likely take place after the Pecatu–Toyaning traffic engineering plan is running. Our current focus is completing the Pecatu project first,” Rahmadi added.

The proposed measures are expected to become part of broader efforts to improve mobility and reduce travel delays in some of Bali’s most heavily visited tourism zones.
