TABANAN, DEWATA.NEWSNuanu Creative City in Bali is showcasing works by two Indonesian female artists as part of a special exhibition highlighting women’s perspectives in contemporary art ahead of International Women’s Day.

The exhibition, titled Semburat Bali, is currently being held at the Labyrinth Art Gallery within Nuanu Creative City and will run until March 22, 2026. The event features works by artists Wicitra Pradnyaratih and Sarita Ibnoe, whose artistic practices explore personal experiences, environment, and social narratives through different mediums.

Nuanu Creative City positions itself as a creative ecosystem that connects art, innovation, and cross-disciplinary collaboration, providing space for artists to experiment, share ideas, and engage with audiences.

“Within a creative ecosystem, women bring very important perspectives, not only through the works they produce, but also through their life experiences and the way they interpret the world,” said Ida Ayu Astari Prada, Director of Brand and Communications at Nuanu Creative City.

“At Nuanu, we want to ensure that creative spaces remain open platforms for diverse voices. When artists have space to express ideas and share knowledge with audiences, the creative ecosystem becomes more vibrant and relevant.”

Exploring Feminine Narratives Through Art

Bali-based artist Wicitra Pradnyaratih, who has a background in graphic design, presents works that combine digital techniques with acrylic painting. Her artistic approach often explores the relationship between nature, sound, and color through audio-visual elements.

Her works Tideglow and Midnight Bloom reflect themes of time, life cycles, and the subtle forces present in nature. In Midnight Bloom, floral imagery such as orchids and lilies appears as symbols of resilience and perseverance.

Rather than portraying flowers as decorative elements associated with traditional feminine stereotypes, Wicitra uses them to represent strength, individuality, and the complexity of women’s experiences.

“The issue is not women’s capacity, but the limited access and opportunities that should be open to everyone,” Wicitra said, emphasizing the importance of creative platforms that allow artists to present their work and engage in dialogue with the public.

Textile Narratives and Social Reflection

Multidisciplinary artist Sarita Ibnoe, who has exhibited internationally since 2013, presents works rooted in textile-based practices, particularly weaving techniques. Her artistic exploration has expanded into installations, performances, and participatory art.

For Sarita, weaving is more than a technical process; it is a way of translating personal experiences into visual narratives.

Among the works featured in the exhibition are Unaccustomed, The New Art Teacher Series – Non-Technical Skills: Gestures and Watercolour #1, Resistance, and Note. These pieces reflect both personal journeys and responses to social events.

One notable work, Resistance, was inspired by waves of protest movements in Jakarta that resulted in casualties. Through the piece, Sarita offers a reflection and tribute to those events.

“Women today are not only present as creators of artworks, but also as drivers of the art ecosystem—as curators, researchers, educators, and community connectors,” Sarita explained.

Building Creative Dialogue

According to Labyrinth Art Gallery Manager Samuel David, galleries within Nuanu are designed not only to display artwork but also to foster conversations within the creative community.

“A gallery is not just a place to exhibit works, but also a space to build dialogue,” he said.

“We want platforms like Labyrinth to present artists from diverse backgrounds and provide space for various perspectives including women’s voices and experiences in artistic practice.”

Through initiatives such as this exhibition, Nuanu Creative City aims to strengthen Bali’s growing creative ecosystem by encouraging inclusive artistic dialogue and collaboration across disciplines.
